I am a self-proclaimed hotel snob. I turn my nose up at the idea of budget hotels. I will not even look at an Airbnb, and If possible I will upgrade even at a nice hotel or resort.
But I haven’t always been this way. There was a time not too long ago when I would look for the best deals, the best prices, and the most bang for my buck. But after a few nightmares, and I mean nightmares, I will never ever say the word budget and hotel/resort in the same sentence again.
Before you ask, none of these stories are made up……
The Sea Mist, Myrtle Beach SC. Now, this was a long time ago. The hotel may have made some changes since our visit. We had a short family stay at this hotel. When we checked in, the room was outdated. The bed linens had visible stains. And although the room was carpeted, the floors always felt moist. When we asked for a new room there was a line of people doing the same thing and being refused. We saw my mother’s coworker there and he was complaining about roaches!
Myrtle Beach Condo. Another year my cousin and I went to Myrtle Beach. We opted for a Condo. The Condos are managed by 1 company but they are individually owned. We walked into our condo and what did we see? The television was on. The trash cans were full. There were a pair of men’s slippers by the unmade bed with a brown bathrobe on top of the bed. Were we in someone’s room? Did the owners forget to clean up after themselves? We went back to the front desk and they gave us another condo. When we found ants in that room, we checked out and drove to the nearest Hampton Inn.
And once again I tried to save a few pennies in Vegas. This time at Bally’s. For the most part this hotel was OK. No frills, No big Perks, but everything seemed fine. So I thought everything was going to be ok. Well.. One morning I dropped an earring or something and it rolled under the bed. I got on my hands and knees and started feeling around under the bed. What did I pull out? You know, just a pair of men’s DIRTY UNDERWEAR!!!! Before you ask, I was in the room alone for my sorority’s convention.
After that I decided, from now on I’ll just pay a little extra. I don’t judge anyone for their choices in hotels or resorts, but for me… I prefer the comfort of knowing I’ll be staying in a quality place! No more nightmares for me, hopefully!
